What it is

MIB2 is the infotainment unit (made by Harman) fitted to many VW Group cars. It has a hidden service screen, the Green Engineering Menu, used by the factory and dealers. I built my own custom version of that menu.

What it does

  • Factory options: switches on features the hardware already supports but that were left turned off.
  • Region conversion: converts units built for the Japanese market to European settings, so imported cars behave like local ones.
  • Other customisations: extra settings and tweaks that the standard menus don't expose.

Why it was interesting

There is no official documentation, so the work meant learning how the unit stores its settings, then making changes in a way that is safe to apply and easy to undo.
